Child passenger safety week 2020

Did you know that according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every 32 seconds in 2018, one child under the age of 13 in a passenger vehicle was involved in a crash? Many times, injuries and deaths can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts.

How many people are driving their young children around to the store, to a friend’s house, to daycare in car seats or a booster seat? How many of those people don’t realize that nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly?   Every year in September, the NHTSA sponsors Child Passenger Safety Week. The goal is to make sure that your child is sitting correctly in the correct car seat and that it is properly installed. Even to make sure that your car seat is registered with the manufacturer so you can make sure that you’re getting important safety updates.     Your child’s car seat is perhaps one of the easiest ways to ensure your child is safe. A properly installed car seat can reduce the risk of a fatal injury in a crash by 71% (infants) or 54% (toddlers).     If you’d like help making sure that your car seat is installed and fit properly, visit a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician in your community. Or, you can visit a car seat check in your community on National Seat Check Saturday — Saturday, September 26. To find a Seat Check Saturday event in your state, visit here.
